Does launching a career in real estate sound exciting? It is! Here are the top 10 things to keep in mind as you get started…
10. Choose an accredited real estate school that also has a comprehensive review course. This will help you know when you’re ready to take the licensing exam.
9. Be thoughtful when it comes to which broker you work with. Talk with at least three and take into consideration training, lead generation, support, fees, and the overall culture and philosophy of the office.
8. Work with a mentor. He or she will be there to answer your questions and guide you through your first few transactions. Also keep an eye on other seasoned agents who have achieved success and have a style that feels right to you. Watch what they do and learn from them.
7. Contemplate your sphere of influence. Think about family, friends, co-workers (past and present), neighbors, acquaintances at your place of worship, school, youth sports/clubs, etc. You may be able to help them with their real estate needs and build your business from there. Send them a note, create a postcard, and make sure to keep real estate in the conversation.
6. Have a strategic social media presence. Think about how you want to brand yourself and be consistent.
5. Know your local inventory. Attend as many open houses as you can to view the properties and price points. Offer to host open houses for listings in your brokerage.
4. Get involved with your local association of realtors. Volunteer with a committee whose work resonates with you.
3. Read and understand the Agreement of Sale and related documents. As a real estate professional it is your job to guide your clients through the paperwork. Attend webinars, workshops and trainings and ask questions.
2. Get to know your colleagues both in and out of your brokerage. Attend social events within your brokerage and local association. Completing a real estate transaction requires teamwork and it is helpful to have a positive rapport with other agents.
1. Understand that you are working with clients on one of the largest financial and lifestyle decisions they will make. While buying and selling a home is often exciting it can also be stressful and emotional. Meet your clients where they are and give them the best possible representation.
There is no better feeling for a Realtor and their client than seeing a “SOLD” sign in front of their home! Wishing you all the best as you embark on a dynamic, rewarding career in real estate.
